20 Easy Day Trips You’ll All Love

Road trips rock! But let’s face it, as much as you relish the quality time together in a small enclosed area, how many times over can you whistle along to toddler tunes or referee punch buggy without the bickering coming to a head. Luckily, our home base (D.C. metro!) is central to a wide variety of places that minimize the drive time and maximize the fun time. Head out on the highway to one of these favorite summer destinations, all two hours or less from the district.

june lessons

A heart that matches God’s heart is ready to do what is good! But how do you know if your heart matches God’s heart? Get to know God by through the Bible, singing to God, and praying. In this unit, we'll look at the story of David and Goliath.

Download Bible App for Kids so you can check out these stories with your kids. They can follow along in the story and have fun bringing the characters to life. Also, check out the Adventure Book we send home with your kids each week so you can help them review the verse and the question and answer that we hope they learn each week.

This month’s chapter is about our friends in heaven, the saints. We’ll be covering different saint stories over the summer starting with Saint Demiana in June.

See if your kids can sing along with the Turtle Time key phrase for this month and point it out to them next time you hear it in Liturgy. We reminded them to pay attention the next time they hear the names of lots of saints in Liturgy (Commemoration of the Saints) so they can get ready to sing this month's key phrase.

Learn the story of Saint Demiana and the 40 Virgins, beloved saints of the Orthodox faith, while coloring beautifully illustrated icons. Saint Demiana grew up in a family much like your own. Find out how she and her father and friends loved the Lord very much and dedicated their lives to our Lord.

Talk to your kid about what they learned in sunday School. THey learn the best from You!

believing what Jesus did can Change me

Who’s ready for some Summer Travels with Kids@TheWell?!  This Summer, we will be traveling right along St. Paul as we journey through the Book of Acts to find out WHERE IN THE WORLD did our Faith come from?! Every week we will take a look at Paul’s Ministry in the Book of Acts and then make a LITURGY connection to discover where in the World our Faith came from and how our Faith changes everything.

Each week not only will we look at the book of ACTS but we will also be making a LITURGY CONNECTION to see how our Liturgical prayers remind us of our Faith and how it can change us each and every Sunday.

June 9 (Week 1)

We will be looking at the 4 Gospels and why Jesus had to come to save us.  Why did He have to?  What did we need saving from?  Our LITURGY-Connection will be looking into the Prayer of Reconciliation.

June 16 (Week 2)

We will look at Saul/Paul’s own conversion with our LITURGY-connection to the Thanksgiving Prayer.

June 23 (Week 3)

We will look at St. Paul’s ministry after his conversion with a LITURGY-connection to the 7 Short Prayers.

June 30 (Week 4)

We will take a look at St. Paul’s insistence that Jesus came for both Jews and Gentiles as we also remind our kids that our Orthodox Church is for everyone.

free people

It is for Freedom that Christ has set us free.  Galatians 5:1

It’s easy to see faith as just a list of dos and don’t’s we have to keep in order to make God happy.  For a teen, sometimes Church just seems like a bunch of “Thou Shalt Nots.”  But what if this view of faith is missing the mark?  In this series, as we take a look at the book of Galatians, we’ll discover that Jesus didn’t come to keep us captive to a list of rules.  In fact, just the opposite is true!  Because of Jesus, we get to live as free people. As we explore St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, we will learn these 5 key principles:

JUNE 9 (Week 1) Jesus really wants us to be free people

JUNE 16 (Week 2) Free people live for Him, not them

JUNE 23 (Week 3) Free people know their now affects their later

JUNE 30 (Week 4) Free people put others first

Hopefully by the end of the month our teens will see that as Christians, we do not follow rules for the sake of legalism, and God does not get upset with us when we mess up, He gets upset for us because as our loving Father, He wants us to be free!  Free from sin that enslaves us; free from burden that weighs us down; free from care of man’s approval; and free from the worries of this world.

LIVE FREE: God’s definition of true freedom

When we accept his gift of freedom, we are truly free to live the lives God has set before us with a higher purpose.
